Jorge Alves

Violist Jorge Alves is professor at ESMAE (Porto), member of the MSQ, and principal violist of the Orquestra da Costa Atlântica. He has performed as soloist with major Portuguese orchestras and collaborated with leading musicians including Máté Szucs, Tatiana Masurenko, Paulo Gaio Lima, Pedro Burmester, Gerardo Ribeiro, and António Rosado. He has premiered over 200 contemporary works.

Laureate of the Prémio Jovens Músicos, the Sta. Cecilia International Competition (Italy), and the Alcobaça Chamber Music Competition, he studied at the Conservatoire of Sion (Switzerland) and the Walter Stauffer Academy (Cremona) with support from the Gulbenkian Foundation.

He is frequently invited to give masterclasses in Portugal and abroad (Belgium, Italy, Brazil, Russia, Finland). He is President of the Portuguese Viola Association and Vice-President of ESTA International.
