Marco Pereira

Cellist Marco Pereira began his studies in Viana do Castelo and later trained with Paulo Gaio Lima at the National Superior Orchestra Academy (Lisbon), finishing with top marks. He pursued further studies with Natalia Shakhovskaya at the Reina Sofía School of Music (Madrid). He also worked with masters including Natalia Gutman, Gary Hoffman, Philippe Muller, and Ivan Monighetti.

A founding member of the MSQ, he toured Europe as part of the ECHO Rising Stars 2015/16 program. He has also had a distinguished solo career, winning first prizes in national and international competitions (including the Liezen International Cello Competition, Austria).

He has performed with orchestras including Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Joensuu Orchestra (Finland), and Atlantic Music Festival Orchestra (USA).

Marco has recorded extensively for solo cello, string quartet, and other ensembles. He has taught at the Universities of Aveiro, Minho, and ANSO. He is currently Principal Soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and the Gulbenkian Orchestra, and guest with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
